4 November, 2019 – Through a joint effort with Carnival Corporation (Carnival), Marine Learning Systems is proud to announce the successful launch of Carnival Corporation’s Global Learning Development Information System (GLADIS). An enterprise-wide, remote learning platform running on Marine Learning Systems technology, GLADIS is believed to be one of the largest Maritime eLearning implementation in the world in terms of complexity and scope.
Marine Learning Systems worked closely with Carnival to develop, populate and deploy the remote system on over 100 Carnival vessels, serving a consistent and reliable training experience to more than 100,000 employees across all operating brand lines. The system is able to deliver both brand-specific and corporate-wide training content, in a variety of mediums, to help reinforce individual performance, competency mapping and advancement programs through targeted training.
GLADIS is a distributed system that supports all Carnival employees with convenient, any-time access to training resources. Training materials, supervisor sign-offs, and tracking of training completion are supported regardless of the location of personnel, and without the need for reliable Internet connectivity. All records are synchronized automatically, enabling greater efficiency in records management and reporting.
Such an ambitious and complex remote learning system implementation would not have been possible without collaborative effort from both companies. Marine Learning Systems is proud that their software and services were, and continue to be, able to support Carnival Corporation’s centralized approach to strengthening its learning culture and lifelong learning process for all global employees.
“I believe that, based on user numbers, that this is now the biggest learning management system in the Maritime industry. The ground Marine Learning Systems have broken for bringing the number of users and ships into the system is remarkable. This is the first time that all 9 Carnival brands will be using the same learning system. This shows how much the hard work, professionalism and dedication the Marine Learning Systems team has accomplished.” said John Allen, director of maritime training professional development at Carnival Corporation.
According to Murray Goldberg, CEO of Marine Learning Systems, “Working with the team at Carnival has been an incredible experience. Their professionalism and dedication to ensuring safe operations is inspiring, as is their enthusiasm to explore new approaches and innovate within the field of maritime training.”
As part of its long-standing collaboration, Marine Learning Systems has also previously partnered with Carnival to develop an industry-first mobile application for skills assessment, called SkillGrader. The application objectively measures individual and team performance during regular drills, and provides analysis on crew competency through performance reports. The reports are used to identify training needs and inform future training development. A prototype has been in use at CSMART over two years, while the application has been piloted in 2018 and expected to be fully deployed in the next year.
